Old Hillside Bourbon Company was founded by childhood friends Jesse Carpenter, Brian Burton, Courtney Tucker, and Emmanuel Waters, all hailing from Durham, North Carolina. The name "Old Hillside" pays homage to Hillside High School, the alma mater of several founders and one of the oldest historically Black high schools still in existence.
