Meet the Founders: Hella Awkward & Build-A-Bae
Hella Awkward and Build-A-Bae were created by siblings Brittane Rowe and Brandon Rhodes, alongside Brandon’s partner Jane Lim, during the 2020 lockdown in New York City. What started as a casual exchange of deep, thought-provoking prompts quickly turned into a mission: to help people break the ice, spark real conversations, and build genuine connections.
As a proud Black- and AAPI-owned family business, the founders bring together diverse cultural perspectives and a shared love of storytelling, humor, and meaningful dialogue. Their games are bold, honest, and designed to take you beyond surface-level talk — whether you're deepening a relationship or just trying to figure out if there’s a second date in your future.
From awkward truths to ideal partner preferences, Hella Awkward and Build-A-Bae are made to get people talking — authentically, playfully, and unapologetically.
